Bus Driver Palava

This is my third post in a row, progress init? Yesterday I got back from work later than usual, all thanks to the ever present Lagos traffic. I slept, woke up, listened to music even ate in the car. It was about 7: 30pm when I finally got to my destination, was too tired to even think straight enough to come up with a reasonable piece for today’s story. Not like I have any at the moment. But wait o, I did something really silly yesterday.

Ok, so story, story? Y’all are supposed to say “story”, that’s how it goes.Back to the matter, I want to assume you know or at least have an idea of how difficult it is to return from work on a weekday from the island. It’s less stressful when you have your own car than the opposite. I happen to be in the legedezbenz zone, God go soon butter my bread, no worry… so after waiting at the bus station for close to 45 minutes, I finally got into this cab guy's car. oh! I wish I took a picture! It looked normal, like every other, except that it wasn’t the conventional yellow cab, this one was way better.. But this driver was so rude. He happened to be an elderly man and so I tried my best to avoid him. I gave him his money expecting to get my change back.

After a very long wait I go: “oga, my change”, he didn’t respond, waited another 15 minutes, “oga, change, I go soon drop”, no answer. The third time I asked again and  this man literally fled up, shouting at me that he doesn’t have change, where do I want him to get change from. It was too embarrassing for me not to give it back to him in full package.

Honestly, I usually, set out to avoid people like this, but this one just came at the wrong time, considering how hot the weather was plus the frustrating traffic. It was later on that it occurred to me that the driver was an old man. I felt bad for what I did. Maybe next time I will learn to be more tolerant.
